Sir Walter Raleigh

The candle extinguisher is based on a number of portraits from the period. It features Raleigh in full dress of the period including his famous cloak draped over one shoulder, padded doublet and breeches just visible at the base of the piece.

The hand painting is exquisite and features a special stippling technique to imitate the silk brocade which would have been used for the doublet. Precious metals were mixed into the colour of the under doublet to create a shimmering effect.
