Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker has become one of the world’s best-loved ballets since its première in 1892. Generations have been charmed and enchanted by the tale of Clara and her toys, which is today a classic and has become a regular highlight of the festive season. The story tells how the toy nutcracker given to Clara comes to life on Christmas Eve and fights a battle against the Rat King, before being transformed into a handsome prince and taking Clara to the wonderful Land of Sweets, ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Now the artists of Bronte Porcelain have captured the magic of The Nutcracker in an exquisite collection of fine bone china candle extinguishers. Each enchanting character is just ten centimetres high, and yet every detail of their colourful costumes has been vividly recreated in miniature and painted entirely by hand in Bronte’s Malvern studio. There is a long tradition of creating decorative ceramic candle extinguishers, and these delightful pieces are highly sought after by collectors around the world.
