This large Trinket Box, made from the finest bone china, combined beauty with practicality: it is not only a treasure in its own right but makes a wonderful receptacle for other treasures. At 125mm (5 inches) in diameter and 55mm (2 inches) in depth it has plenty of room for jewellery and precious things, but it would look equally at home in a china cabinet as it would on a dressing table. It is a superb example of high-quality ceramic art.
The vivid colours and familiar bulbous shape of the Tulip make it one of the most familiar and best loved of flowers, synonymous with the Netherlands but cultivated around the world in a variety of colours and shades, from vivid reds and yellows to the wonderful ruby and white stripes that our artists have chosen to depict here.
Cast in fine bone china, fired in the kiln, then covered with a thin layer of transparent glaze and returned once more to the kiln, the cover of this trinket box offers our artists the perfect invitation to show off their skills. The three tulips and their foliage fill the whole of the available space, the subtle shading achieved with careful applications of colour and several more firings. Only when the design is complete is the finishing touch applied: a band of 22 carat gold around the cover and foot line of the box; it’s also possible to add a personal inscription of your choice to make this a really special gift.
