A beautiful spray of four stunning Poppies is the focal point of this elegant vase, which is available exclusively from our website. At 195mm (7½ inches) tall, this medium-sized vase offers the perfect shape on which to capture the exuberance of these much-loved and symbolic flowers in a wonderful example of ceramic art of the highest quality.
The common or remembrance poppy (Papaver rhoeas) has become a familiar and poignant sight in the century that has passed since the First World War. Inspired by the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ (where ‘the poppies blow), the Poppy was soon adopted as the symbol of remembrance for the dead of that war and the conflicts that followed. The poignancy of the Poppy is heightened by the beauty and drama of its familiar yet still dramatic blood-red colouring.
Cast in fine bone china and glazed inside and out, the vase is then passed to the artist. The main design features a large spray of poppies, balanced by a single poppy and bud to the rear of the vase. The depth of colour and subtlety of shading can only be achieved through several applications of colour, while the finest brushes must be used to capture every detail of the plant and its foliage. The final touch is to apply a band of 22 carat gold around the rim and foot of the vase, before it is packed in a hand-made silk-lined presentation box.
Remember, too, that as everything we produce is made and painted entirely by hand, it is perfectly possible to paint a Poppy design onto many of our other giftware items; for more details of commissioning a bespoke item please see our commissions page or contact us to discuss your requirements.
