Available only from our website, this elegant little vase is the perfect shape for a beautiful painting of irises. The word ‘iris’ comes from Greek and actually means a rainbow, inspired by the amazing variety and profusion of colours in which this much-loved flower is found. But it is the delicate beauty of the white iris that has been selected for this vase.
Just 90mm (3½ inches) high, the vase is cast in fine bone china, then carefully glazed inside and out and fired in the kiln before it is passed to the artist. Working entirely by hand, using fine brushes and a palette of ceramic pigments, the artist painstakingly creates the image of the flowers, capturing every detail and shade of the petals and foliage. On the rear of the vase are two iris buds, ready to burst into flower. It will take several applications of colour to create the final image, and the vase must return to the kiln after each one. Finally, the rim of the vase is given a band of 22 carat gold before its final visit to the kiln to fire it into place. It’s also possible to add a hand-painted inscription of your choice to the base of the vase, to create a truly personal gift or to celebrate a special occasion.
Because all our giftware is painted entirely by hand, it is of course entirely possible for our artists to create a design using a flower of your choice on any of the items in the range; for more details on bespoke items please visit our commissions page or contact us to discuss your requirements.
