A beautiful gift at an affordable price, this delightful coaster is a wonderful example of the skills of Bronte Porcelain’s artists and craftspeople. Just 110mm (4½ inches) in diameter, it is small enough for any setting, and both decorative and practical. On this small but perfect canvas our artists have chosen to depict one of the most popular flowers of all, harbinger of spring, symbol of Wales and famously celebrated in verse by Wordsworth: the daffodil. Long associated with Lent and Easter, the daffodil has become a symbol of rebirth and new beginnings.
The coaster is cast in fine bone china, glazed and fired in the kiln before the artist begins work, painting the image entirely by hand onto the flawless, smooth surface using specially prepared ceramic pigments. The vigour and beauty of the daffodils is perfectly captured, from the familiar shades of yellow, both vivid and more muted, of the daffodils in bloom to and of the bud that is about to open, to the flowers’ stalks. It takes not only time and patience but several applications of colour – and several firings in the kiln – to create the finished effect. Finally, a band of 22 carat is applied around the rim of the coaster, to provide a fitting frame for a work of ceramic art.
It’s also possible to include a hand-painted message on the base of the coaster, for a truly personal touch. Available only from our website, this Daffodils coaster is a truly delightful gift that brings the beauty of hand-painted porcelain within everybody’s reach.
