In a truly stunning example of ceramic art, the artist who creates Bronte’s Black Cherry Blossom and Butterflies Vase uses only black paint to produce the design of blossom and butterflies, in maximum contrast to the pure white of the fine bone china body. It is a wonderful demonstration of the skill of our artists, showing how the restrained use of monochrome can create results that are just as breathtaking as the use of rich and vivid colours.
The 255 mm (10 inch) high Hanley Vase is cast in fine bone china, carefully glazed and fired before our artist begins work, creating the design of multiple cherry blossoms and two delicate butterflies entirely by hand onto the smooth cylindrical surface. The subtlety of shading and tone and the intricacy of the detail can only be achieved with the utmost care and delicacy of touch.
Cherry blossom has been a traditional design used on ceramic products for many centuries, particularly the Japanese porcelain that inspired the creation of European fine china. The Japanese influence is clear in the Black Cherry Blossom and Butterflies Vase, and particularly in the perfect companion piece, the White Cherry Blossom and Butterflies Vase (for more information see here), which is its negative equivalent, with the design created in white on a jet black vase. The two together make a wonderful pair, but either one of them would make a strong statement in its own right.
Supplied complete with a wooden plinth and in a hand-made, silk-lined presentation box, the vase can also optionally carry a hand-painted personal inscription of your choice.
