In the traditional language of flowers the Rose reigns supreme as the symbol of love. Roses have for ever been the gift of the lover to the loved one, most familiarly roses of deep red, but a silver anniversary deserves something exceptional.
Bronte’s Silver Anniversary Rose is just such a gift. Created entirely by hand
, this delicate full-petalled white rose is accompanied by a cluster of delicate forget-me-nots. Not only do these tiny, pale blue flowers set off the voluptuous rose to great effect, but even their name adds to the message that the flower conveys.
The creation of flower sculptures in china presents tremendous challenges to the ceramic artist. First, each leaf and petal must be shaped by hand in china clay, then carefully assembled, and the delicate model must then be fired in the kiln to drive out the moisture and harden the clay into hard, brittle china. Only then does the painstaking process of decoration begin, with the most gentle shading and colouring within and around the petals of the rose and on the tiny forget-me-nots, building up the delicate effect as if you were looking at a real, moving flower rather than a solid china sculpture.
After the sculpture has been fired once more to seal the colours permanently into place, we can on request add a hand-painted inscription onto the base, perhaps the date of the anniversary or maybe a personal message that will make this unique gift even more special.
