There is a long and rich tradition of ceramic flower sculpture, dating back both to the earliest days of porcelain manufacture in the ancient Far East and to the pioneers of English fine bone china. To capture the delicate beauty of a flower in a medium as solid and permanent as ceramic is one of the greatest challenges a potter can take on.
Here at Bronte Porcelain we believe that we are pushing the creation of bone china flowers to new heights, and this astonishing Ruby Anniversary Rose is a perfect example of the exceptional quality that we can achieve. Each delicate petal and leaf is shaped by hand from china clay, then these thin and fragile pieces are assembled and carefully shaped into an exact replica of the real thing. The finished sculpture must then be fired in the kiln to drive out all the moisture, before being glazed and painted, again entirely by hand, to capture the colour and shading of the flowers.
This beautiful red rose is accompanied by tiny sprays of gypsophila, again fashioned entirely by hand
in our Worcestershire studio. The perfection and apparent fragility of the flowers are truly astonishing, captured for ever in delicate fine bone china. To commemorate an anniversary, or for that truly personal touch, we can even add a hand-inscribed message to the base of the sculpture, making an item that is already unique even more special. A ruby anniversary deserves an exceptional gift; this anniversary rose is just such a gift.
