The ‘Portrait’ Rose is a truly exceptional example of this much-loved flower, with its double petals and an eye-catching pink colour. The rose is of course also the most richly symbolic of flowers, associated particularly with love but also a representation in art, poetry and song of an ideal, timeless beauty. As such, it was the perfect choice for Bronte Porcelain’s floral homeware collection.
Roses have been painted on to fine porcelain for hundreds of years, and there are many wonderful examples created in the studios of Worcestershire potters which can be seen today in museums and country houses, as well as in pride of place in personal collections. We are proud to continue the tradition of high-quality hand-painted floral art, created using the same, time-honoured techniques of our forebears, but with a contemporary twist.
First, the vase is cast in fine English bone china, then fired and glazed ready for the artist’s brush. The beautiful, lifelike design of roses, buds and petals is then carefully applied by hand to the smooth, cylindrical vase using specialist ceramic colours, a process which involves several applications of colour, after each of which the vase has to be fired in the kiln. Finally, a band of 22 carat gold is applied to the rim of the vase, and, if you wish, a personal inscription can also be added to the base by the artist.
Each vase comes complete with a hand-carved wooden plinth and a hand-made, silk-lined presentation box.
