The largest plaque that Bronte Porcelain produces, at nearly a metre in height, allows our artists the freedom to show off the full range of their skills. Producing a plaque of this size in fine bone china is in itself a challenging task, but one of which our craftspeople are more than capable. Carefully cast, fired and evenly glazed, it is a wonderful, broad canvas for the finest ceramic art.
The image of two colourful blue and gold macaws is created entirely by hand, using a palette of special ceramic pigments to build up the colour and detail. The vivid tones of the paint are perfectly suited to capturing the magnificent, bright plumage of these wonderful tropical birds, as well as the delicate orchids amongst which they have found a perch.
Painting by hand on smooth, glazed bone china requires a special technique, while the need to fire different colours at different temperatures means that each plaque must return to the kiln several times before it is complete. The combination of these glowing colours with the delicate glaze gives ceramic art of this quality a unique vividness and immediacy; and, unlike most other forms of art, these colours will never fade.
The plaque is finished off with a beautiful hand-made wooden frame that sets off the artwork to perfection, and you can also make it even more special by adding a hand-painted personal inscription on the reverse of the plaque. Each plaque is presented in a hand-made, silk-lined box.
