Glazing & Glost Firing

The biscuit ware now needs to be glazed, in order to give the finished piece its distinctive glassy finish and to protect the delicate bone china. Each piece is individually sprayed with a liquid glass solution whose ingredients include silica, china clay and water. It is then fired for a second time, for 10 hours at around 1100 degrees Celsius. This is called the glost fire, during which the glaze will bond with the ceramic body to create a strong, impervious coating on what is now known as glost ware.
