Wendy Darling

alice_awc

The name ''Wendy'' was inspired by a child called Margaret Henley (daughter of W.E. Henley, editor of the National Observer) who called Barrie ''my friendy'' but because she couldn't pronounce her r's it sounded like ''my fwendy''. Barrie used the name Wendy for the first time in the play. The pretty face of Margaret Henley has been sculpted as the Wendy Darling candle extinguisher

Prior to commencing the sculpture an Edwardian style nightdress was made by Lucy following extensive research into Edwardian lace and clothing of 1904. Although primarily white in colour the nightdress shows great sculptural qualities and detail.
