The Alice in Wonderland Collection
Charles Dodgson (pen name Lewis Carroll) was a teacher of mathematics at Christchurch college, Oxford. The Dean of the college Henry Liddell had several children, one of which was named Alice.
On July 4th 1862 whilst boating Lewis Carroll created the story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (then called Alice's Adventures Underground) for the children. On November 26th 1864 Lewis Carroll finally got around to giving Alice Liddell her own hand written personal book of the story and exactly three years from the boating trip she received the published version covered in red cloth with illustrations by Sir John Tenniel.
Alice's Adventure in Wonderland remains one of the most popular childrens stories of all times and has been published in over 125 languages.
The candle extinguisher collection adheres to the original concept of Carroll and Tenniel although a little artistic licence has been used to create the magical and timeless characters. |
